How about getting it polished up nice&shiny and putting it on Ebay? Poss get more for it than scrap value maybe? Or you could find out the scrap value and have that as your starting bid so you wont lose.
just walk into any jewler that advertises buying second hand jewllery, take the first offer they make and draw a line under it all. I got rid of my ring, walked into the next shop i found and blew the money on an ipod.
