On a normal shopping trip to my local tesco (Manchester Cheetham Hill Tesco) with my bike and my sons bike trailer.

Locked the bike up as normal. Went into Tesco.

When we came out about 10-20 mins later the locks had been cut and the bike and the red trailer had been stolen.

Gutted. might have to invest in a GPS and a bike alarm for me next bike, can't have anything without it being stolen.

Are there cameras covering the area where the bikes were taken. Call up your insurance provider with a crime number ASAP.

I dont have them insured, I was looking at getting them insured within the next week or so.

I had a few cheap locks that i used to attached the trailer, but had a better one for the bike (not sure of the make).

They had just cut through all 3 of them. Any recommendations for future locks/alarms/GPS's? As I have recently given up my car and bought bikes instead.

Advise you to get your bikes insured, then go by the standard your insurance company recommends, eg Gold, Silver, Bronze locks.
I'm insured and I use an 2 Abus chains that i rap round my waist.

Make sure you have an approved lock. Go for Gold. I found this on the cycleGuard Website. check your policy carefully.

Exclusions relating to theft of your bicycle when you go out on it:

  • Theft if the bike is left without being locked to an immovable object
  • Theft when the lock you have used is not an approved lock
  • Theft of your bike if it is left unattended anywhere for any more than 12 hours or 24 hours at a railway station
  • Theft of parts unless your bicycle is stolen at the same time

Yes I have had a look at these very carefully. from my research all of the locks i have chosen are at leave silver which is required for my bike.

I think the kryponite series 4 locks are gold tho.

Was tempted by a GPS, but not sure that the police would follow it up even if I told them I know where it is lol

Hey mate, sorry to hear about the theft. What scum to steal the trailer too!

As it happens I'm using the same bike you had stolen. I use a kryptonite fahgeddaboudit (gold rated I believe), and a kryptonite cable with a padlock. I also attach an alarmed padlock to the fahg which is motion sensitive with a 115db alarm, £15 off of eBay and DEFINITELY worth it. Think the make is secure sight, look it up!

yeah i know, my little lad (4 years old) has been really affected by it. he thinks the naughty men might want to come in the house next.. unbelievable that you can spend so much time trying to protect them from things..

do you have a link to the motion alarm???

it says "After ten seconds the padlock re-arms ready to deter the next person foolish enough to tamper with it." what happens if the person rides it away does the alarm keep beeping?
