Do it myself in 32 - 35 minutes.
Impressive - 32 mins for a 10k isn't far off national class.

Still two minutes slower than the age group above me.

I used to use the elliptical as a warm up at the gym, thinking its almost a pedal stroke and low impact (I cant stand the gym bikes - bored witless in 30 seconds)
The gym then upgraded to a different type of elliptical, and I really don't get on with them, they have a much more round than elliptical stroke. So I tried the treadmill. I couldn't do 500 metres without knowing Im not doing myself any favours.
I could feel it in my knees (Im 100kg) and often had shin splints to various degrees.

I goggled running technique and found some useful advice, mainly about not heel striking.

I have gone from 500 metres nearly killing me to doing 5x 1000 metres, now doing 1k as a warm up and 2x 2k (at about 8km/h), totalling 5k in a session, in 2 weeks. The plan is to put them all together and do a treadmill 5k... then venture outside.

Might even see if I can find a local fun run.

I'll post the result on Sunday, don't hold your breath though, I'm 57 and have never run any where since primary school !
Good luck to you, MrP. I hadn't given much thought to your age. I am born a decade before you. I only hope it won't take a decade before i can run as far as you

I like running, but it is definitely harder on the body. It's better than biking in bad weather - you can go out, splash through the mud for an hour and that's it. I only do cross-country and fell running - can't see any attraction in pounding along pavements.

I too, fell-race, when I can, & try to only use the road-runs as distance/speed work
Sadly, I injured a heel in my last race, & have barely ran since that (November 16th)

That said, I've started again, & hopefully, should be on the start-line here; http://www.ilkleyharriers.org.uk/index.php?page=imr

I run and cycle depending on what stupid challenge I have set myself for the year!!!!! If i focus on running then the cycle fitness goes out the window and visa versa can't seem to get a happy medium where they both benefit each other ........

Dualthon?
When the weather improves I'll start cycling down to a nature reserve (a scenic 20k route) then do a 5k run there, followed by the circa 7k ride home. I generally just take off the cycling shoes and run barefoot (far too cold at moment) as its a nice grassy riverbank area.
