I'm happy to pick up any scraps that fall off the table (story of my life )Oh and @SteCenturion, hasn't been seen since I gave him my account details. In order that he could pay to get to the top off the list.
Know the feeling. Old George appeared to pop his clogs before he could sign £2,000,000 over to me.I'm happy to pick up any scraps that fall off the table (story of my life )
Pop referred to selling something. Yer clogs were no longer required once dead, and would often be one of the first things sold
Not a problem, happy to help. Thanks, I was going to look it up but had various other posts in my 'alerts' to look at first, so thanks for getting in there before me and making me look like a lazy git!!
Where does the phrase 'Pop your clogs' originate from anyway??
It's the result of Olympic speed skaters changing from wooden clogs to inflatable plastic ones during the Dutch Elm Disease epidemic of the late 1980s when elm wood was in short supply. At times the skaters would occasionally get punctures in their inflatable clogs during events, hence the phrase, 'popping your clogs'.
