Correct - and they seem to do a perfectly fine job too.
Sad barsteward that I am I came back from my hols with a suitcase of completely clean clothes ... The lot wash and dried in 1 load and just over an hour.

Au contraire, these were quiet, super smooth and didn't seem to use much water at all. They also power off completely when done.It's funny a lot of you on this thread admire the US machines, but in the US they admire the European ones. Personally - I found the US machines too big,noisy and aggressive.
Front loaders like that are actually pretty rare in the U.S.
I've only ever used top loaders in the USA. Until i rented a place out there i hadn't seen a top loader for a about twenty years.
