Will my iPod charge off a USB port even without iTunes installed?

I charge my iPhone at work using a pc that hasn't got iTunes installed, so I imagine it should work.

It does, my sons shuffle was loaded with music dragged and dropped and charged too before itunes was installed.

I have an older ipod and have found that it does not charge if you connect it to a USB port.

Maybe newer ones work differently.

I have the cheapest ipod shuffle available and charge it regularly using a 13 amp plug to USb mains adaptor. As long as the vaults go down the correct pin you should be alright. *This is no guarantee you'll be alright*

yes, as long as it's a usb 2.0 port and it supports devices without their own power supply. hence it will charge from any mac or pc, but probably not from the ports on the keyboard or monitor.

I am sure I should know this, but how do you tell a USB 2.0 from a bog standard USB port?
