Giant Defy 1 Compact 2013 Road Bike

Is this amongst the best at that price?

What others would you recommend I consider?

I ride at least 5 times a week for about 2 hrs each time, both for commuting and leisure, although I have a cheaper specialised road bike which I intend to commute with.

I did consider the Boardman Road Team:-http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_789235_langId_-1_categoryId_165710

but I've had two boardmans and had a few issues with them.

The Boardman road carbon developed a clicking noise which was never sorted and I got a refund.

The Boardman Team Hybrid creaks and groans every time I wash it so think issue with bottom bracket; think I've had at least 2/3 new bottom brackets in the last 18 months!

Thanks ahead.

What I would say is search this forum especially this category if you can. It's been covered a lot. I suppose you have to ask yourself what your use of the bike will be? Commuting or leisure ?

Mainly leisure; I've edited original post to reflect that.

The Cannondale CAAD bikes are very popular with a great Alu frame.

Best is to get to a couple of good retailers and look at the options. There are dozens of options around the £1000 mark. Get one that fits and also floats your boat aesthetically and brand wise

Defy 1's are great bikes, but i would go and sit/ride a few before you make your mind up.
I tested a caad, specialized, cube before settling on the Giant Defy 1

No substitute for a test ride on bikes you are interested in. Most local bike shops will have demo bikes.
By all means lust over then on the internet then try the choices you have made.

My personal choice would be a synapse from cannonade but like Lee above I'm biased.

Thanks for the input.
Giant Defy still favourite unless I can negotiate a discount on the Boardman. Telling myself to avoid the Boardman for reasons above but they do get excellent reviews.

I like Specialized bikes. Sure they are more expensive like Cannondale's are too. But they offer a lifetime warranty on frames and so have I read offer very good customer service, I believe Cannondale are great in that respect too.
