Actually, it's his observation based on experience.

People come onto this forum to share knowledge. Part of that will be opinion, so you have to temper how you deal with that experience and opinion.

We are all open to a bit of debate, but launching yourself feet first at another poster in order to defend your "fanboy" brand will not come across as particularly helpful or polite.

Opinion and statement of fact are two different things. I am all for people sharing their opinions, but certain users on here love to make wide sweeping generalisations on a variety of subjects. While they are entitled to do so, I, and others, are also perfectly entitled to pick them up on them as, when and if I or others see fit.

You really have let yourself down there with that Fanboy comment haven't you.....

I used the term fanboy because I thought you had done so in another post. The above post was an effort to help you think about how you come across. It was not an invitation to become adversarial.

I have got £700 to get myself a hard tail mtb. I have been commuting on roads for about a year, but want to give MTB a shot. I used to ride around very light trails on my cheap second hand GT Aggressor that I got for £150, but I broke the front fork, and in any case, the brakes and mechs were total crap.
What would be the best hard-tail for my budget?

I,d agree boardmans offer vfm. within your budget, just consider genuine ebayers before shopping at halfords though !!

Hello - like the thread starter I am also new but have got my sub £700 hardtail already.
Over the last 3 months I have been doing the Dog red trail at Cannock Chase at least 3 times a week and my Merida Matts 300 has been fantastic - Merida make the frames for Specialized so are no mugs.
From what I have gleaned so far, my bike - though entry level - is easily good enough for the Dog and Monkey red trails up here, so you should be fine with any other similar spec of hardtail.

HTH

edit :- here are the specs......I have the 2012 version, very similar to this
