She was an icon for country music fans and for feminists. She wrote most of her songs based on her experiences. She really was a coal miners daughter.

An impressive and influential woman and widely recognised for her achievements.

There's a very good documentary about her life and music which has been shown on BBC4 a couple of times. Hopefully the Beeb will pull it out of the archives and show it again soon.

She was part of - and leaves behind - a large musical family.

It said on the radio that she died on her ranch in Tennessee. If you're a county and western icon you've gotta die on a ranch, not in some old fogies home!!

Replying to myself but I finally got around to listening to Bob Harris: Loretta Lynn in conversation. I'm not a country music aficionado by any means but it's a good show I enjoyed.
