‘Re-Proofing’?

I have a Jack Wolfskin ‘waterproof’ that’s quite a few years old
It was bought for a (honeymoon) trip to Canada in 1998

I've worn irregularly over the past few years, but have worn it more, for dog-walking recently (after my old Altura 'NightVision' started to let in water/was ripped)
I started to notice odd flecks on the seat of my car
I didn't realise for a while, but noticed the interior is breaking up, & I assume that the white/grey is the waterproofing

Are any of the 'wash in'/'paint on' treatments worthwhile, or at that age, is it just 'bite the bullet' & buy another?
Thanks in advance

Do you know what type of waterproofing texapore is? Wash or spray on is just water repellency to help water bead on surface to help with breathability. The core waterproofing is a coating or membrane (unless paramo or similar). If a coating (such as PU or neoprene) or membrane is falling apart, it’s dead as fully waterproof.

As a postscript

I recall wearing the Jack Wolfskin to go on The Maid Of The Mist, from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls

A lot of other tourists were laughing, telling me to wear one of the ponchos (probably ‘XXXXL’ size)
My wife wore one, but sensibly held it down/tight

A lot of peoples were blowing in the air, due to the air-vortexes created by so much water movement in the ‘canyon’

When we disembarked, l opened my coat to show the bedraggled masses a perfectly dry tshirt!

I actually found one in a box in the attic a few weeks ago!!
They’re about 3 foot side to side, so ‘American sized’?!

It is probably dead but it might be worth throwing a "Hail Mary".
Try a spray on waterproofer. It might work, it might not, but at least you'll know. I found the wash in variant to be useless.

Dogtrousers

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
My own experience with old waterproofs is that the spray on stuff makes the water "bead" on the surface and the garment is fine for short walks like walking to the station in light rain. So it'll be good for light use. But a very old/well used garment won't hold up to any kind of serious test of waterproofness such as properly heavy rain or long exposure.

I'm sure there are many more years of dog-walking in your jacket. Clean it up, spray it, and lower your expectations.

The downside to it, is that the internal coating will still flake off everywhere

If it's to be replaced, I still want a bright colour though
I've seen these 2 coats
The 'Orange/Navy'; https://tuffshop.co.uk/mens-workwear/outerwear/portwest-t400-pw3-hi-vis-winter-jacket.html
(a far better temperature range than needed in the uk??, to -40C!!)

'Rust';https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/p/042390/mw/coastline-mens-borg-waterproof-jacket/rust/
(not sure about the 'patch pockets' though, they look odd to me)

'Tuffshop' isn't too far away, along Aberford Road, near Woodlesford Railway Station
There's a 'Mountain Warehouse' at FreePort/Xscape, near jct32/M62

We've been down to the TuffShop this morning
I found the jacket above, tried it on... it was alright
The instore price was over £90, whereas online, it was £65, & the orders go to the shop anyway
The store manager agreed to match the price, so it was bought
Mine’s the ‘orange/black’, they didn’t have the ‘orange/navy’ in stock

Curiously, there's a 'poachers pocket' in it, but, I've never seen one like this, it's across the rear

I’ve just walked the dog for an hour or so in it
It’s warm, without approaching ‘boil in the bag’ syndrome, & it was a 10 degree day, but l did only have a t-shirt on

I had to take the (folded) hood out of the collar & put it in the ‘poachers pocket’, as it was too bulky & dug into the back of my neck

Other than that, no complaints on an inaugural wearing
