1-2 berth tent

I’m on the look out for a 1-2 berth tent that packs down small enough to go into a pannier bag. I am looking to try out a camping and cycling trip and don’t want to spend much if I don’t get on with it.

I use a Vango soul 200 which I strap to the rack top. Sleeping bag and Matt one side and clothes cooking the other side.

I could have got a soul 100 which is a bit smaller. Tent fabric in panniers and poles on frame.

But if you put a wet tent in a pannier it's likely to make rest of panniers content wet. Hence I prefer it on rack top.

Really like my Decathlon MT900 1 man. It is super narrow and feels like you're lying in a coffin. Also bought the soloist which was just too cramped at the entrance: the only satisfactory method of entry was via half a burpee.

I bought one off Ali Express. Mceto is the brand. Stood up well in a thunderstorm on the first night of a four day bike packing trip on The King Alfred's Way. Cost about £40 weighs 1300 grams and packs really small. 35 cm long and 15 cm wide.

I was reading about new Apex 1 tent on the BP website. Looks pretty amazing. I got a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 ~800grams and couldn't really justify another purchase but this one does look super compact.

After lookin at it more closely it involves balancing your bike as one of the supports, bit nuts in reality !

I looked at alpkit and various others, but steered clear of them because you have to put them up inner first which isn't great in rain. I got a Wild Country Zephros 2 with groundsheet for around 140 for bikepacking and touring as its erect all in 1. Doesn't weigh to much and well made. Wild country is Terra Novas budget brand.
