110bcd running 46/36 which would go down to 34 or even 33. Would be just getting a lower gear really but I'm not getting younger so think that 34x29 would be okay but might not in a couple of years

Change of crankset to a 46-30 would be the most cost effective way of adjusting gears. Your lowest would then be near enough 1:1 which is pretty low. I'm assuming you have a threaded BB which would make it a relatively cheap change.

If you want to make a change to the gear ratios, the best bet is to fit a sub-compact Shimano chainset (and BB probably). Not clear what 110mm BCD) chainset you have. Or swap the current inner for smallest which'll fit. This will then allow for the 'largest Campagnolo sprocket' limit. The LH ergo will execute the shifts fine and the chain will be fine too.

Nah, vintage 8 speed is where it's at with a bottom gear of 39x26. Ergh !

6 speed bottom gear of 42x18 ?
