Will a 10 speed Deore shifter work on my old 7 speed mtb with megarange rear mech?
Already have a new compatible wheel on shelf.

Need to replace the chain and also screw on cassette and wheel pretty much had it.

Can buy 10 speed Deore shifter, Tiagra cassette and Sram chain for £35 if rear mech will handle it.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Should do as Shimano mechs pull the same cable ratio

I like Skol

A Minging Manc...
Check carefully as I think the cable pull ratio is different for 10spd MTB set-ups from shimano. Try checking the Sheldon Brown website as I think there is more info there to confirm this.

Thanks, you are right! Boooooooo! Knew a quality set up for £35 would never work, far too cheap and easy.
Have now found this:

Hopefully this will work.
Have new kmc chain on shelf and hopefully new/nearly new tiagra cassette handy too
