Wonder if anyone can help me out?

It's 10 weeks until I do a 100 mile ride and I haven't started doing any long distance rides yet due to just recovering from a tonsillectomy.

Has anyone got a training plan I could follow. Or simply advice on how many times a week I should be riding and for how long? (That I can fit into an already busy schedule)

I currently do 14 miles a day 6 or 7 days a week as a commute. Wednesday I went out for an extra 45mins and tomorrow I'm going to do 2-2.5 hours (I prefer to train in time rather than distance - that's probably wrong)

Anyway any advice, I was thinking an extra hour one day, an extra 2 hours another day (possibly on my mtb) and then a long ride one day a week building up from 2-6 hours.

Do you have to hit a particular speed or just get round?

Basic aim is to get up to eighty miles a couple of times, I think. If you need to hit a speed, at least once should be at that speed or slightly quicker.

No select speed it's just a ride for fun. I've done 100 miles before in 6hours 22 mins and would like to aim for about the same as it felt comfortable

If you are commuting 14 miles a day, you won't have too much difficulty. I've done a few 100 mile sportives on a diet of just 20-30 mile commutes each day.

Many of the folk on sportives/charity rides are just weekend riders. I had a good chat to loads of folk and most weren't commuters. Just get in some longer rides. If you can cover 60-70 miles, you'll be OK. Just pace yourself.

I did the RideLondon last year, starting my training in May. I tried to follow a couple of plans, but I found they did not fit in with the time I had available. Instead I concentrated on getting out on my bike as much as possible and slowly building up my long weekend ride distances. This is my training log from last year:

I like that as an informal plan. Longer and shorter rides interspersed, with both steadily increasing. No consecutive long rides and tapering close to the event.

For someone aiming to do the distance witour aiming for a target time it's difficult to beat that arrangement

Very helpful thanks

So I think I should be okay on the amount of miles or hours I was aiming for.

This is my first week

Mon 14
Tue 16
Wed 24
Thur 14
Fri (today) 14
Sat approx 30-40
Sun 7 (if I get a lift home!)

So I'll just gradually increase where and when I can,I'm already pushing myself to cycle faster up hills and on clear bits of road. Thanks for all the advice

Ride London have plans on their website iirc depending on your level and expected speed etc

That's not a very hilly 100 and is closed roads so you may need to adapt
