I know that everyone is aware of recent price increases which apparently have been as a result of global recession blah blah, but I think most of the recent price increases have been as a result of greedy retailers.

I bought a new 105 10 speed cassette last December for £25.00 now 6 months later the same cassette is for sale for £53.00 thats more than 100 % price hike.
You're not telling me that is all price increase from manufacturer's

I think we are all being taken for a ride .

It's not just bike stuff either!

Inflation's abot 0% though. The government says so, and who are we to argue?

Shimano have doubled their prices across the board in the last year.

To be fair, the cost of producing steel has gone up 400% over the last 5 years, and there was actually a shortage 3 years ago, now there is over production which means that mills are laying off staff and mothballing, which means there will be a shortage which drives up prices ......

The Economic cycle will make for a more expensive (bi)cycle over the next few years

You really have to shop about, and like others, I try and take advantage of the £50 discount price breakers. Don't forget, if you alter your preferences on youe Wiggle Account, they send you a £5 voucher if you spend over £50. I've done that a few times.

yes but if every time you want some handlebar tape or a chain you spend £50.00 on stuff you don't need in order to get 15% discount on the item do do need where is the saving in that ?

We are talking about direct price comparisons and if you have to spend £50 at ribble to get a reduction then that wouldn't be a comparable really would it!

apologies for rudeness Pete . i'm a grumpy old git at times
