105 shifter v rear mech compatability

I'm currently in the process of building a turbo only bike for use over winter & save messing with my road bike. I have a 105 10spd sti shifter approx 10 years old, how do I work out what rear mech will work with it?
A lot of 105 stuff is now 11 speed, so guessing that's no good & looking at the Shimano site & their compatability chart just confused me Not sure what series 105 the shifter is but approx 10 years old

I would guess you have ST-5600 105 shifters and I believe Tiagra 4600 10 speed mech is compatible

Cheers hopefully the tiagra will be cheaper too don' want to spend a fortune on it just for an odd hour here & there

The Tiagra is cheaper, and will be fine for a turbo bike.

Maybe this excerpt will be less confusing for you. All current '105 stuff' is 11 speed so if you buy new, you need Tiagra (without the option). Otherwise there's lots of older/used 105 and Ultegra RDs for sale 'online'.

I recently (2-3 months) changed my 11 year old 105 mech (10 speed) - replacement = Tiagra - exaclty the same apart from Tiagra a plate being steel the old 105 = alloy , few gramms difffence, otherwise 'identical' - from memory 2-3 different types / cage lengths

I replaced my 10sp tiagra brifters with 10 speed 105. Works perfectly well with Tiagra derailleurs.

Ah ... just googled - my kit is 2012, so would be 4600.

Does it have the 'clothesline' style gear cable (coming out of the side of the shifter)? Or is it the sort with the gear cable running under the bar tape?

The former is 5600; the latter is 5700.
