11-30 road cassette

im sure ive seen one before but cannot find a 11-30 cassette for shimano fit. i can find 11-28 and 12-30 but no 11-30....

anyone?

I had a 11 -30 8 speed so not sure if they have one in the 10 speed.

Shimano produce 12 - 30 ten speed cassette for their tiagra groupset. Have you checked the SRAM product range?

IRD does one, but you might be better off buying two Shimano/sram ones to make up your own.

If you already have an old cassette with 11 tooth you may be able to swap the 12 for the old 11 on a 12-30 cassette!?

its for brother in law, he has a 12-30 at the mo and just wants a bit more going downhill

would it be easier to look at the chainset then? I switched mine out from a 30/39/50 combination to 30/42/52 combination and downhill speed has improved (as has overall speed) but I still have that granny gear for the hills... just a random thought...

It's not life or death.

He has a brand new 105 compact and the associated cost with swapping to a triple it's just not worth it.

The 11 tooth gives just a little extra and I personally prefer it.

We are not great climbers and only ride once or twice fortnightly hence the need for a 30.

you don't have to change to a triple - just increase the number of teeth on the larger of the 2 front rings. It will acheive the same result.

True but running a 52-34 front is too far a gap to be realistically functional isn't it?

And a 39 is too restrictive for climbing

What are you riding at the moment? Are you really struggling on the hills? Are there other routes that you could take?

Avoiding the hills isn't really the idea behind cycling for me.

He's riding a 12-30 and just fancies a bit more gear downhill.

No major dilemma.

Tell him to learn to peddle faster. Sounds a bit internet speedy to me, I would suggest if they need a 30 then they will not have enough power to do an 11 justice.
