Very proud of my 12 year old. Two weeks ago he hadn't ridden over around 15 miles. We took our road bikes on holiday, and found some nice rides.

One rest day, other than that we've done around 15-45 miles per day. Started off at around 13 mph, today, with a bit of 'encouragement' he managed to average over 16 mph, over 32 miles. It was a bit breezy too, which helped on the way out, but hindered like billy-oh on the way back.

Been great for both of us, I used to find 11 miles a long ride, now quite happy to ride 50 miles no problem, and looking forward to my first 100 ride!

Taking him for our first club ride tomorrow! 52 miles. I think he's being a wimp though, wants us to drive the 9 miles each way instead of using it as a warm up/ warm down! What's wrong with the lad, anybody would think 70 miles would be too much! Bah, youth of today!!!

P.s it's a 'come along and try it ride, so pace should be relatively sedate!

Is he available for coaching?

Good on the lad!

Word of warning, though - by the time he's 15, he'll be leaving you standing

Lol.

I do have to admit, half the time I'm pushing him, just going a little faster than he wants to go, but on the odd occasion he turns the table on me, already. I've noted he's up to 27mph on flat sprints too! I didn't dare tell his mum that he topped out at 45 mph downhill, when he ran out of cogs on his Rival 20 groupo. Also he wisely advised 'I don't think we should mention it to Mummy!'
