I had several of these irresponsible dangerous selfish morons on high powered motorbikes buzz me this evening. The best that can happen is that they hit something very large and immovable. End of problem.

Like with all modes of transport it seems, you get to$$ers on Motobikes too. Ive had some pass giving me 6ft of space, the one the other day sat behind me for a wee bit on bend and hills before overtaking safely  but I've had others coming straight at me on the wrong side of the road passing with only inches to spare. If it went wrong do they not realise as well as killing an innocent me, they'd kill themselves or at least do some serious damage .

Crashing and severe injuries do not put them off as testified by one of the constable on TV and as evidenced by my mate "crasher Pete" - how he managed to see out his first quarter century never mind his half century is beyond the wit of his peers. He's a rider who has probably crashed a Lloyds syndicate along with his bikes. Thankfully he's always been the sole casualty in all of his crashes. He's too stupid to spot that he ought to have hung up his leathers along time ago.

Indeed. No amount of "safety courses" are going to dissuade this class of rider from doing what they do. Only hitting something very very hard might work.

The law is that for a driver or motor cyclist driving in a 60 mph limit and the speed is 91-100mph + then this will incur a fine ranging between 75-125% of their relevant (net) weekly earnings plus either a disqualification (guideline 7-56 days) or 6 penalty points.

Re the fine; the driver or rider can claim undue hardship

Re the disqualification; 7-56 days, magistrates can disqualify for longer depending on the severity of the speeding.

The policeman should not have merely given a fixed penalty notice unless the rider was foreign (without a UK licence), and unlikely to be around for a court case.

At 120 mph in a 60 mph limit the policeman would not have been acting severely if he had charged the rider with dangerous driving. I think this particular policeman will get his knuckles rapped.

Not all got a section 59 notice, that only seemed to given to those doing wheelies.

My opinion is that anyone doing those kind of speeds, whether motorcyclist or car should immediately have the vehicle confiscated.

It's your opinion but not the law.

Section 59 only facilitates the confiscation of a vehicle if a section 59 notice has been previously issued.

He was following a policy of his constabulary to destabilize the psyche of the road based Valentino Rossi wannabes.

I use "they" deliberately as these morons have a herd mentality which means they have an utter fear of venturing out alone. Consequently if the first dipstick fails to scare the living s**t out of me, then his equally IQ challenged mates can have a go.

That's part of the problem; peer group pressure. I've been on ride outs myself and they've scared me. I stopped going because they could be dangerous.

Normally sane individuals start behaving like idiots, making choices and decisions they wouldn't normally. And, as has been commented, it's often not just kids. Many are middle aged men - 'born agains' - that can now afford fast, powerful motorcycles. However, the bikes of their youth and the bikes of today are very different beasts. Some of today's bikes are, frankly, too powerful to be handled by many of the born agains. Arguably too powerful to be on the road.

I don't know whether it's image, machismo, blowing out cobwebs of the week's work, 'having a laugh'... but it all adds up to silliness; and that, as has been observed, can be dangerous to others.

I trust that his psyche was suitably destabilised.

It would destablalise mine

I could life with a temporary ban but not with the thought that my motorcycle had been crushed.

The financial penalty of the former is affordable - a relatively low fine and a hike in insurance plus the cost of alternative transport arrangements should a ban be imposed. The latter is a double whammy - all of the former plus a loss of a motorcycle worth up to £10k.

I think that it is just that high speed is thrilling and exciting, and unfortunately it is the danger* that makes it exciting. That is why we have things like rollercoasters, is it not?

Enjoyment and thrill of speed is relative... what if all motorbikes and cars were speed limited to 80mph max? or 75? If you get in a road train of bunched up vehicles all together at least you can slow down a bit or speed up a bit to separate.

Then if some nuts still want to waste fuel accelerating to the limit as quickly as possible they still can ...but what's the point of any road vehicle in the UK being capable of going faster?
