Why do you need a big engine, the speed limit on the motorways in the uk is 70mph, even a poxy 1ltr powered car can achieve that and your average 1.6ltr family car can easily achieve and maintain that speed in a good degree of comfort and economy. what is it with people that want to drive big engined gas guzzlers, is something to do with the superiority complex that goes with owning a bmw???

My wife's 1.6 does 30 mpg my 2.0 and a lot larger car does 52mpg.

As somebody who drives 35,000 miles a year, I like the comfort of a slightly larger car.

i drive an astra 1.6 and get a return of 40ish mpg locally and a bit more on a long run, 30mpg is rather poor for a 1600.
i would not class a 2.0ltr as a big engine but that is where I would personally draw the line, anything over 2ltr is just a waste imo.

My sister has a mini and is getting rid as it has too many gremlins. My brothers BMW 120 M Sport has been problematic. Engine faults and stupid run flats. Told him to get rid of the tyres. Nothing but trouble.

Nieces Fiat 500 was a mare. Total lemon. Got rid within a year and bought a Mazda.

Mazda, nice cars but keep an eye on the wheels, they will be starting to corrode by now. The diesels have been a tad troublesome, but would not put me off buying one.
