@middleagecyclist - Thanks for sharing this. I looked up the stills on your blog which set me thinking (and sorry this is off-topic). What sort of camera were you using? Those stills are impressively sharp, even given the relative closeness of the passing HGV.

Hi.

You can find details of my experience with a cycle cam here.

Just a point of interest. AFAIK the speed limit for HGVs on single lane each way roads is 40mph, and dual carriageways 50mph regardless of what the signage says. As to whether this would be classed as a single lane, with two going in one direction and one in the other I don't know.

Aye, you aren't allowed to cycle through the Clyde Tunnel or on the Expressway, with good reason. The Clyde Tunnel cycle path is one of the few Mandatory cycle paths that I know (only one actually!).

I was once driving into the tunnel as I passed a cyclist entering it. I'm not sure if he was lost or just thought, 'what the hell'. Rather him than me!

I have seen this too, two guys on fully laiden tour bikes... it's bad enough going through the tunnel in a car, but on a bike! I've seen a guy on the expreesway too.. why would you even chance it :S

For a road to be classified as a dual carriageway, the traffic streams must be physically separated, not just by white paint.

The speed limit for this particular stretch of road I believe was 50 mph if my memory serves me correctly, though not for a moment am I suggesting that this is observed by all (or even most!). Certainly a fast and busy stretch of road which I wouldn't have contemplated riding. IMO Wheely did well to negotiate the major roundabout preceding this stretch, unscathed.
