I did an 18 mile ride this morning which including 600ft of climbing. I cycled from my house to Ravenscar and back in 2hrs 30min (including stops!)

I am really pleased with myself, especially because I peddaled my way through all the climbs!!! I didn't stop cycling until I reached the summit.

Anyway I wrote a blog post with some pictures - hope you like it.....

Thanks very much all.

I actually felt really great & I definitely could have carried on cycling further.

I know my speed won't break any records but for the type of cycling I want to do (touring) it's not all about the speed but the journey! (cheesy I know!!)

Can't wait to get back out there & share my rides on my blog with you all

Spot on, it wont be long and you will do that distance and think you haven't been out, I felt like that after 32 miles today, though it was an easier than your ride, my Bryton says 547ft gained strava says 451 and ride with gps says 880

That's not cheesy at all, it's cool. Riding bikes is about enjoyment, not fast or slow.

Nice photos btw.

Those are great photos and a nice write up indeed! All that blue sky makes it look like you were here in California! Keep it up and make sure to keep us posted on your progress! ^_^

Nice write up and enjoyed the photos. I have also got a bike at the end of July just a Triban3, to start getting out and about touring, so have booked marked your blog and will follow with interest.

Good job!

I reckon if the terrain is relatively flat I'd be able to cycle a lot of miles. However, realistically, I know that in order to do longer rides I have to get used to hills. Thankfully I live in a very hilly area so there are all kind of challenges just on the doorstep!

Very nice write up and pics. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks - believe me, as nice a day as it was, the temperature was probably 20 degrees cool than California!! Still it's a beautiful part of the World.

Thanks, I'll be trying to update it regularly.

My bike only cost £99 second hand and isn't top of the range but I really like it. It's just geat to be able to get out and explore the area in a new way.

Hi, well done & a great write up with beautiful pics.
Funny enough I also done my first 18 + mile ride today. Went to the gym first then decided to go shopping & before I new it I was bombing down the main road on a detour complete with a weighted rucksack. Had to push it some of the hills, but still got there. I even grumbled to myself about forgetting to bring my camera. Looking at your pics has got me kicking myself ;)
