I'm not so sure that's entirely fair. Looking at his post I think he got his entry via Groupon. I think it cost him £21, and that included the wine. Paying £45 would have been a bit silly, though.

I'm doing the Groupon thing for The Fridays next year. £1.90

Did some cycle carrying all that ice and glass?
I can't let this pass without paying my respects to Stu and Adrian. What happened was this.

Stu came off in circumstances that we won't go in to. An ambulance was there in seconds. The ride pushed on to Horley and Adrian and I waited with Stu and the ambulance. Eventually the ambulance peeps released Stu, worried that he would logic them to death, and we called a taxi for him and his bike, so that he could be taken to Gatwick where a train would then take him home.

So.............I'm faffing around with Stu's bike, and instructing the taxi driver, while, unbeknownst, Stu was taking a birthday cake out of the famous rucksack and putting it in Adrian's rucksack. Off he went, and then off we went, Adrian to Gatwick to check up on him and me to Horley to rejoin the rest of the ride.

And I, Mr. I'm In Control, knew nothing about this until Adrian re-appeared at the top of the Beacon bearing cake. And there was Greg with a barrel of prosecco. The whole thing is here - at 1.55 you see a man who is utterly, utterly bewildered

and, as you can imagine, I'm going to take the memory to my grave. The only sadness is that Stu, the Bearer of Cake, wasn't there

An absolute rip-off at full price, then. The Groupon price is below most equivalent sportives these days, but then so was the quality.......
