Just brought a pair of 661's and pedals worn twice from a guy at work for £15. It was my first time EVER wearing cycling shoes and it was great what a difference! I'm just wondering what everyone was going on about they kept falling off all the time???? It's so easy to do even a monkey could do it. Not once did I forget I was wearing them or have problem clipping in or out. if anyone is thinking of getting cycling shoes, don't think do there so much better. But if you walk in them it turns alot of blokes heads thinking it's a women in heels haha

The time will probably arrive when you come to a halt thinking about 5 different things and just for a second forget that number 6 is remembering to unclip. If it happens I hope you fall gently.

Yes, indeed. It was overconfidence at a road junction that induced my first ever slow motion fall to earth...

I'm about a year in - touch wood.

But rode OHs bike the other day (mine is elsewhere at the moment), and he has the clip thingies on the pedals at a higher tension than I do. Felt a bit nervous - harder twist to get feet out again.

[we need a 'fingers crossed' smiley!]

7 times off the bike and 5 of those because of pedal mishaps

Twice at busy traffic lights, once in a village, once opposite a bus terminus and if there is no one around to hear, does a falling cyclist make a noise?..................... of course he flamin well does

I avoided buying special shoes as I have to walk as well as ride in them. Therefore, I wear cheapo squash trainers and use clips/straps. Disadvantage is that they catch on the front mudguard when turning, but I soon learned to avoid that.

You're right, the more people think about it the more they are likely to fall.

BUT, it will eventually happen, even if it takes 10 years...

I have been close to it, but it always releases at the last second - usually after you think you'd had it.

You can walk OK in mountain bike shoes. I use those on my touring bike.
