Just had my first go on a tandem today. My mate & I had to deliver 2 tandems to a local society for the Visually impaired.
All I can say is Wow! its weird being on the back (the stoker), but a lot more normal being the pilot but its strange having to work in tandem (sorry for the pun^_^).
And I would say to you all that if you get the chance to ride one go for it!
Many thanks to the drivers of Bournemouth for giving us a wide berth:thumbsup:.

Nice one.
One of my mates is blind and keeps asking me to pilot for him, so I should give it a go sometime.

Bring it on Sunday!
We have been thinking of that Stan but the tandem is missing a seat and needs new bar tape and a thorough going over, hopefully we can give it a maiden voyage on Sunday though mate, although i doubt i'll be joining you on any downhill sprints this time ^_^

I've rode a tandem a couple of times -only for very short laps of the park - with my daughters taking turns on the back.
It was different! We all preferred the tricycle!

Twice I've nearly bought a tandem. Would love one as a project bike.

three wheels on my wagon
Some of the best times I have had on two wheels (also three) have been on a tandem, great for pub runs, sunday rides and what have you, every one wants to talk to you.. Those moments where you go for a gap as your stoker has just decided to anchor on, the speed you can achieve on the flat or down hill, the thrill of reaching a bend at full chat and feeling your brakes fail (we ended up four foot up a tree and my uncle who was on the back took up running at that very moment) Unfortunately with a difference of 14" in height between her indoor and myself finding an of the peg jobby is all but impossible, even if she would consider it. there are plenty of reasonably priced tandems on ebay, but they don't fit in your hallway.....

My advise is go for it!

You just need a long seatpost^_^ I'm 6'2" and my daughter was age 10 when this was taken, so couldn't have been more than 5' (she's now 19 and 5'5")

Cheers, I still suffer from being a bit old school, where seatposts (in my head) are still only about 8" long and mtb type stuff has yet to sink in. I will have to start buttering up her indoors, and get looking closer at 'modern' tandems. I could always have it re-enameled in black I suppose
