My Uncle was 89, approaching his 90th, wanted to celebrate with a "do". He booked a local pub (The Stanley) and invited all his nephews and nieces, cousins and neighbours and paid for overnight accommodation for us traveling up from Kent. But on the morning of the party, we got a call that he had been admitted to hospital. We found out later that his medicines had caused a bleed in his stomach.

Anyway, he told everybody to carry on and meet as planned. So we all had a very good time, but poor Arthur spent the time in Whiston Hospital.

He recovered and lived another happy 5 years, but the deteriation towards the end was pretty rapid.
