went out on a circular route this morning, wind was in my face ALL the way, i thought the 2nd half of the circuit the wind would be pushing me forward ?

i blame the french !!! they keep cutting down all the trees to make big fields, so there is nothing to stop the wind howling across :-(

Mike Burrows once analysed this. and it is down to "vectors"

Stand upright and put your arms out and think of yourself facing North

Any wind from the front (i.e. East to North to West) will have a "headwind component", varying by the angle, and lessening as it progresses to the East or West direction

Only if the wind is from 90 degrees will it be neutral and anything from West through South to East will be a beneficial tail wind

There is no such thing as a two way wind. In my experience (limited though it is) there is only a one way wind. No matter what direction I face I encounter a head wind.
I'd like to think it's just wind resistance due to my incredibly swift pace. Sadly, I'd be pretty deluded if I did think this. It's a weather conspiracy against all cyclists.
