Did a fun 20 miles today. But my brain can't seem to remember to click out of my MTB spd. Doing a right turn and slowly crawling between cars to the lights and it went green. In my panic to not get taken out by the car I forgot I was still clipped in and half landed on the road. Doh!
The second was my fault. Tight turning circle on wet leaves and the bike was up in the air.
Are the road pedals better or should I just fit traditional pedals? Or I am thinking of taking the cleat off one shoe

Ok. Have this morning ordered some SH56. Thanks

Good stuff!!

You would have to try very very hard to have a 'moment' using these. And even then I don't think you would succeed.

Not sure why bike shops don't advise everyone new to SPD's to use these?

My first cleats were SH 51's and I had two very nasty moments with them - albeit not total 'offs'. A telegraph pole came in handy on the first occasion and a Lakeland stone wall on the second.

I've been using them for two years now on a 'get used to them and then go back to SH 51's' basis but tbh I can't see the point in going back to 51's.

I use trekking pedals on my Riverside. They have a cleated side and a flat side, I've not joined 'the club' with those. I did however join 'the club' when I first ventured onto SPD-SL's on the road bike.

I've had a few falls due to my cleats not coming out quick enough, or it could be my slow reaction. Anyway, I know the signs I'm about to hit the deck so now I'm quite good at just slowly flopping over to minimise injury to myself but more importantly me bike.

I think my most embarrassing topple  was at temporary traffic lights at stop in front of a bin lorry on my way to work. The guys in the cabin must off peed themselves laughing and had their morning cheered up no end.
