looking at the getting one of the above.
From what i can see the only difference between the 2 and 3 is sora/tiagra is that correct? i really dont like the look of the 2 so might save my self the money and get the 3?

then a £200 step up to the defy 1 with 105. looks like slightly different wheels but are they much better? dont know anything about giant wheels? is there anything other difference from the defy 2 to defy 1?

Answers please?!?

Yes, think the 1,2,3 have the carbon fork. Groupset main difference.

If you don't have to have the 2014, look at Ashcyles fo deals on th 2013

The Defy 3 has a more friendly (slightly) SRAM 11-32 cassette compared with the 2's 11-30 tooth Tiagra one. Ok not a big difference but maybe make those hills a little easier until you upgrade. Otherwise all the same, the Defy 1 has a few more improvements including handlebar, wheel set and carbon seat post.

Strange..... I have exactly the same dilemma I am going to buy one of them! but is £100 quid for Tiagra over Sora worth it if I'm only commuting not racing or doing sportives on it? and I do prefer the look of the 3 over the 2 but my LBS is getting stock soon so I will decide when I can see them both for real...

Yes, only the groupset is different between the 2 and 3. Both have carbon forks and the same S-R2 wheels.

The 1 uses P-R2 wheels (a bit lighter), 105 components and a carbon seatpost.

@simon the viking : if it's being used just for commuting, then IMHO, the 3 would be more than good enough and Tiagra would not make any difference to you, and other than losing 2 gears, they will ride exactly the same.

I started out on a 2, and I still love it

Spend as much as you can afford. You'll only end up upgrading fairly soon otherwise. Well that seems to be what happens. Giant's are great bikes though, I nearly bought one myself. Have you looked at the TCR Comps? I'd go for a TCR over a Defy personally.

Defy 1 - 2012.
The wheels are robust and still run true. Great bike with 2500+ miles on her thus far

I going to wait until LBS have stock of both and see which I like the look of. But as you say £100 for 2 more gears on a commuter does seem a bit OTT but the commuting is my main cycling mileage.

My local LBs had a cracking deal on a Defy1 2013(£650) but unfortunately didnt do it in my size. So he did me a great offer on a Defy1 2014 in red and black so purchased that. Been cycling on a Scott hybrid for last few years and what a difference with a 'proper' road bike. Absolutely love it ^_^
