The lack of race radios really shows up how reliant some of the riders are on being told what to do from the car. In a normal race there's no way that group of favourites doesn't contest the win today.

Disagree, they favourites group had visibility and then just sat up, they wouldn't work together, which leads to the legitimate tactical decision not to ride. No amount of radio contact was going to stop the fact that they'd tow a competitor to the line if they went to the front.

Good race .

I was just watching the BBC iPlayer back to about 35.5km to go. The camera drifts off a bit when the winning move is made but you see the non-reaction from the main peloton. They just let it go presumably thinking no one of interest was in that group. The Worlds are a unique race with no radios and national teams thrown together for one event.

That's very true. In fact, Vollering eluded to her error in chasing last year in her interview with the Belgian press, so it was definitely a concern for her. However, I don't suspect they would have lost the time they did lose in the first instance had there not been the element of confusion that follows not having the directors in the riders ears. They'd have been on it much quicker. Anyway, it was a top class race either way and nice to have a winner nobody would have predicted!

Wow, quelle surprise!. Just checked the result after a busy day (including a short ride) and the effing disappointing overpowering at Twickers and have now cheered up immensely.
Chapeau! Not a too shabby year for young Magdeleine. 🇨🇦

Great to see the genuine joy from Alison Jackson too

Men's RR looking like a far more familiar format - a few riders get up the road for the early break, teams with a major interest and manpower try and control

We've got Denmark, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal and France and err... Mongoli trying to bridge

And now, for no apparent reason, Alaphilippe attacks*

*I said it was familiar, didn't I?

What are the French up to? Causing chaos and disruption but who are they riding for? JA attacked and now he’s getting dropped with over 240km to go.

That's just Alaphilippe for you. It's a classic move from him, just very, very early.

It's at moments like this I wish IainF was still about
