I’ve put it down as a spoiler thread just in case but just general chat for now. It’s obviously quite a momentous event being the first in Africa and potentially the hardest ever route.

The GB team has been announced and from what I can see there are no women in the elite road race with Henderson being the only selection but only doing the TT. Am I missing something or, if not, why aren’t there any in the elite road race?

Decent looking men’s team with both Onley and Pidcock as potential medalists.

I just came here to share a link to BC not entering any elite women: Cat Ferguson spearheads new era for Britain following Lizzie Deignan retirement

Seems like another insult to women's cycling.

Someone posted the suggestion that security in Rwanda may be an issue for the lack of GB squad when I posted the BBC article on GB selction (yesterday?) on the general 2025 racing thread, especially on the womens side. Maybe a air point?

I see it as putting faith in the next generation.

Who would you select for the senior women's team who isn't in the U23 team? Henderson, Georgi, who else?

Do the U23s do the same race as the elites (I can’t recall but know they do at Nationals)? If so I guess that makes some sense but otherwise they should just be doing the Elite race.

That might be arguable if BC didn't have such a history of short-changing the women's squad.

Josie Nelson is the other obvious one, but what a snub this seems for them: "sorry but you're not even worth the cost of entering."

Also, is there a second senior ITT entry not being used, as reports only mention Henderson?

I assume U23 riders don’t have to do the U23 race? Surely some of those going for the U23 are more than good enough to do the elite race instead? It feels a bit doing U23 if you could compete in the elites as you very rarely (if ever) get to wear the jersey.

There's no men
entered for the TT either, so forget all the suggestions of sexism. There's every possibility that no one worth sending wanted to go.

I have a friend out there for work. He cycles regularly and has ridden the route.
He has never, ever, mentioned feeling unsafe at any point.

I can't see anything about security in the other thread, but maybe I'm ignoring whoever said it (in which case, I suspect the commenter is, shall we say, not completely objective about African countries) or the comment was deleted. I did see one about needing health insurance, but that would have also been needed for Richmond USA in 2015 and BC sent 6 to that women's elite race.
