...is a lot right?...thats what my load currently weighs just prior to the off...I added a few things and took a few things out but it's still 22.5kilos. 15 kilos in the cardboard box for the planes hold and the rest in the hand luggage...so I'm within the weight limits for ryanair. I keep telling myself that I can afford to lug a heavy load like this because I am not carrying 5 stone of body bulk that I was last summer in Norfolk....or maybe I'm jus tkidding myself...hmm...soon find out I guess when i hit the first foriegn hill! I am going prepared for all weathe rexcept snow and ice...it's a long trip and I doubt we'll have hot summer weather for all of it.

Good thing is that I am now feeling confident enough with the gPS the not take the manual, just a few memory jogs onsome paper will do and i have the full maunal on a memory stick anyway if I get really stuck.

...now where did I put that snorkel?;)

Providing you have a touring gear range you won't have a problem with 22.5kg IMO, esp. as the propulsion unit is 5st lighter!

My Raid Pyrenean load was a shade over 20kg and a good job I took the overshoes.

Weather's all right round here, just got back from a 2 hour jaunt round the C roads.

Have you seriously lost FIVE stone? Wow...I'm in awe of you! You won't even notice the 20 odd kilos you're carrying!!

Have you tried lugging the bike and gear up any kind of hill?

But if you honestly need everything you've packed (with a couple of luxuries), then don't worry about it - just take it slowly for the first few days to give your knees a chance!!

You'll be fine I'm sure. If you have the willpower to lose 5 stone then you certainly can manage cycling up a couple of little hills. Have a great time.

22.5Kg:ohmy: How do you manage that?
I weighed my bike with loaded panniers after my 6 week tour and it weighed 44Kg. No airport check-ins to worry about mind you.;), as I only used ferries.

22.5 kg refers to just the luggage and not to bike + luggage

I'd be really impressed if the whole shooting match weighed 22.5kg

My 5 week tour last year weighed in at 15 kilos and I seemed to have everything covered. you can always discard or send home anything you find superfluous after a couple of weeks. As has been discussed previously everyone has different luxuries!

I think you need to submit your complete kit list to forum scrutiny.

When Jay Clock did this he got 20+ pages of advice on what to include and leave behind ;)

BTFB,

FWIW I'm convinced that your GPS is an unnecessary comfort blanket because you just don't need it in Germany. You can do the whole country on Bikeline guides and/or ADFC maps and you can keep the weight down with them by posting them home as you use them. Also it might be an idea to ruthlessly review your kit after the first week and post home anything that you haven't used and that it is clear that you can do without.

While I'm prepared to accept that southern France may be a bit third worldish, I strongly suspect that you will be able to buy cycling maps in bookshops there. Could somebody enlighten?

As for the telly: aaaaaaaaarrrghh! Every single German campsite has got a bar/restaurant plus they at worst lie on the edge of a town which will be bristling with decent German pubs and restaurants in which you should be propping up the bar, for God's sake. It's a holiday. It's supposed to be different from being at home!
