2nd hand revolution

was going to buy a bike through c2w scheme, but i have been looking about in the 2nd hand market and have an oppurtunity to buy a revolution courier race with discs for a bargain price, but also been offered a revolution street finder, but the crankset is buggered and needs adjusting , rear cogs work fine though....
the streetfinder is £55 and the pursuit is £110..
both look in resonable condition apart from the crank on the streetfinder....

would the 8 speed gears hold me back on the courier race for treks along the canal and commuting to and from work roughly 2 miles each way....
Canal treks would be 50 mile there and back...

The question is do these bikes suit your needs? Do you know anything about fixing bikes or will you take it to a shop? Price sounds reasonable if in fair condition. Courier Race sounds the best option.
