It not too bad except Sat/Sun afternoons if the weather is good. Like all good cycle routes it attracts motorcycle riders. Not too many HGVs/buses as they tend to go via Ballymena and down the appropriate glen.

Only seeing this now too myself. Glad you're avoiding Armagh, what a non-entity of a 'city'! I'd rather go to Lisburn and that's saying something! 
Portrush is dead on but for a slightly better location (sorry SP!), Castlerock to the west or Bushmills/Portballintrae to the east are nearby and much nicer destinations to spend a night. There's a decent inland route or two to navigate back to Belfast from Coleraine direction that I use a few times a year if you need a few pointers. Mostly quiet country lanes to and through Ballymena and onto Antrim then onwards.
