As above, tell the police - you're required to in a collision I think, even if it's a straightforward insurance job - this is more serious, as it's either hit and run, or hit and didn't even notice...

More likely "Hit and didn't even care"

My experience with HGV's has been pretty reasonable, I still never trust them though.
