It's more of an ID - not a passport for international travel.
They never used to need a passport to appear in the freezer aisle at Tesco.

I don't think they ever travelled, the old owner was a big supporter of retired horses, ponies, donkeys.... Anything with long legs and a long face really![]()
The modern horse passports also state (amongst many things) whether the horse can be used in the foodchain upon death or not. That's the owners choice, mine were definitely not. But depending on vaccinations and worming, it might only be the animal foodchain they can be used in, not the human.
