Meh, sorry to hear gavroche. I think they must be struggling for language lecturers already anyway? I'm sure they used to offer several languages in the evenings on the Rhos site, but it all seems to be over Abergele end now which is too far away for me (Rhos is bad enough), and Welsh evening classes seem non existent at Bangor & Rhos. Coleg Menai used to do quite a few Welsh courses. Worst thing they could have done is merge the three colleges. I've gone the Open University route instead.
Abergele is where I am based and they only offer French, Spanish and Italian this year. Not so long ago, we used to teach Welsh, German and Russian too. Languages are certainly declining, at least through the college, that's why I am ready to pack it in really.

Seems that if you refuse the pay cut and they bin you, or you simply find it untenable to now remain then it might be deemed constructive dismissal. Seems people in similar circumstances was gone to tribunal and won. Some have also lost, but it might be worth taking some advice from someone properly qualified.

Good luck.

Unfortunately the payouts are capped at one year's salary. In most cases this limits to payouts to £8k a year or £18k a year or whatever. The absolute cap is now £78,335. Only relevant here because gavroche is such a stratospherically high earner.

Which is a shame, I think languages are important and the British I think fall far behind our European counterparts when it comes to language learning. One of my regrets is that I dropped languages at school. I was in the top set for French and if I had any sense I should have done the GCSE. I did the Welsh GCSE because it was compulsory. Hey ho, hoping to make up for it now!

Have you considered perhaps seeing if you can get your foot in the door with the OU or perhaps setting up your own community classes? I've chosen Spanish and there is a lady that does her own Spanish classes in the community (Llandudno/Craig Y Don area I think), but unfortunately I cannot go to them as I'm unavailable at the times of the advertised classes. I expect it would be a hard gig though trying to make a living out of it.

I know her well. We work together in Abergele. I don't do it as my main income but only to top up my pension.
