Bikepete and I went to the recently opened Reel Cinema in York yesterday to watch the new Harry Potter film, 8PM showing. First time we'd been back since it closed a few years ago (as an Odeon). We got there nice and early at around 7:20...

It turned out to be a FOUR HOUR epic involving one chap trying to seat 600+ people single-handed (with no seat numbers!), finding out it was overbooked and putting out chairs in the aisles (!), followed swiftly by removing the chairs from the aisles after someone with a grasp of fire regs etc had a word... slow handclaps from the audience as the film had not started an hour and a half after its due time!

To add insult to injury the gent's toilets were out of order...

Eventually it started and after a few focus blips went on to half-way when the curtains suddenly closed and the chap said there was going to be just a one minute intermission. When it came back on, the interval music was still playing over the film soundtrack...

Finally got out about 11:30!

Was it worth it tho?

That sounds like the flea pit I used to go to as a child in Clapham junction, 'The Ruby'.
If anyone knows the area it was on the site of what is now Barkleys Bank.
It was closed down because it was infested with rats and the Gents was a corrugated iron hut on the side of the building.

Write to them and complain. You may get free tickets to go see something else.

Did it a while back as it was an afternoon showing for a film and the place was bloody freezing, ended up sitting watching it in coats.

Sounds like the 'Not The Moulin Rouge' that used to be in Oxford. They heated it with a small 3 bar electric fire at the front. At least they let you take booze in which used to numb the pain!

I was banned from the Odeon Catford when I asked for free tickets for a performance that I had missed most of because I found a junkie who had OD'ed in the toilets.
I had checked he was breathing, put him into the recovery position, alerted staff and then had to show the ambulance crew where he was.

The manager refused to refund my money or replace the tickets so I told him, in no uncertain terms, exactly what I thought of him and that I would be contacting his head office, it was at that point he told me I was banned!

There you go tdr1nka - you'd contravened a by-law and were, quite rightly, banned - serves you right!!

Night Train

Maker of Things
I went to see HP yesterday too, at the Red Cinema at the Lowry. Just got there for 8pm and was leaving at about 11.15pm.

It was good but not as good as it could have been but there was a lot to get through.

Intersting thing was that when Harry drank the Felix potion for luck he looked like he was impersonating Richard Hammond!;)

The Gents toilets there weren't out of order but they should have been. The cubicle had been 'pebbledashed'.
It was like that at 8pm and still like that when I was leaving at 11ish. Don't they clean toilets there?
