Once again i've learnt a few things this week, thought i'd pass it on.

Firstly, the guys and girls on this site def know what they are talking about. They have lots of information that beginners like myself can benefit from. Any new cyclists should be made aware of CycleChat somehow.

Second thing i learnt is padded gloves really help prevent numb hands.

Third invaluable thing i have found out is malt loaf and flatjacks are great fuel on the bike, and only cost a fraction of the price of energy bars.

And last but not least, i completed my first 50 miles today in 3hrs 13 minutes. Ok Mark Cavendish can breathe easy, i'm not on his tail just yet! But i loved every minute. If i could bottle that feeling and sell it, i'd be a millionaire. :wahhey:

Good going on the 50 miles, I really need to get a mileometer. I got good advice here because I kept getting shakey munchies. My dad and bro would go to the gym on an empty stomach then eat food when they got home, I employed that strategy but kept feeling like crap after a while when I was out on my bike.

At first to remedy I would eat a big bowl of Alpen before I went out but I've since stopped eating things like cookies and chocolate and now even things like Alpen are too sickeningly sweet. Porridge with a spoonful of honey now and tuna sarnies from Asda or Tesco if I'm out for a while.

Well done bubbles! I've learned the first three just like you, but got a way to go on the last one!! 50 miles is a fab achievement for a 'beginner'!!
I will get there eventually!! Just enjoying it very much at the moment and the feeling of wellbeing you get from the fresh air and exercise!!
