A simple question.
I need to lower the gearing on my old Falcon. It's got the usual 52/42 .
Would it work ok on a modern compact 50/34 stronglight setup?

Maybe. Best checking with the specs - a 5 speed chain is quite a bit thicker than a 10 speed chain so if the chainset doesn't allow for that it will foul.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the answer though.

I have an old 48/38 square taper chainset in the garage. Quite heavy and 165 crank length, it came off a 5 speed system, so it would work for you. PM me if you're interested.
