Hello you lovely people.

Ole MTB'r doing more road stuff lately, generally between 20 - 30 miles comfortably. But a couple of months ago I got to 52 miles in a relatively respectable time of 3hrs 50 mins (15 stone, 47 yo). I actually started flagging BIGTIME for the last 10 miles. I started with porridge and a banana before setting off, 2 x 1 litre bottles with a ZERO tab in each and 2 x Cif energy bars but obviously wasn't enough ( last five miles I nearly stopped at some road kill, yes I was that starving).

So was just wondering what others would take with them on a 50 miler, because I hear Badger meat is an acquired taste !!!!

Soreen cake and rye bread..oh and jelly babies

A couple of Fig rolls an hour will keep me going on an all day ride.
Also treat the first 10 miles as a warmup section and don't push to hard.
I'll be on my bent trike so see you there ......... ^_^

Co Op wine gums, Jelly Babies and Percy Pigs (or Percy Piglets) are all good for eating every now and then to keep you going. Around the half way point, I usually have a slice or two of Soreen, or some sort of flapjack. Fig rolls are a good shout, but personally, I find them a bit too dry without a brew

Everyone is different though, so I'd suggest trying a few things in your training and seeing what works for you.

Even if you intend to use the feed stations, I'd carry a backup - I've done a couple of rides when we arrived to find the feed being packed up, and f* all left.

Good breakfast (Porridge with a bit of dried fruit or fruit & fibre with a bit of grenola mixed in does for me?) then a coffee and a small flapjack at 25 miles and carry a 750ml bottle with a ZERO tab and top up at half way is all I usually need for 50 miles.
