They have this in many countries in Europe, no lorry overtaking, I remember in Germany when motorcycling

I particularly like HGVs pretty much disappear on Friday afternoons till Monday. The UK should adopt these rules. This would speed up traffic flow.

I worked out if it takes one lorry nearly a mile to pass another lorry (20 metres long). The time saved over the whole journey would be miniscule, rather pointless. Its the same for vehicles overtaking in busy traffic achieves so little

Less tiring, less stress, fuel saved. What's not to like?
Sat navs and other route planners looking to minimise journey time would find the biggest motorways and quasi motorways less attractive, thereby directing more traffic onto lower-limit roads, generally smaller roads and those past more homes.

It may be worth it anyway, or it may be possible to do something else to rebalance the route planners, but such drawbacks should be considered.

Yes, my son loves WAZE and while its generally served him well, its not flawless, such as the time it redirected us off the motorway toward Blackpool and dumped us on singletrack roads, then into Preston...AT RUSH HOUR !!!!
Carnage, id have sooner sat static on the motorway for an hour than endure that again.
Even an hour sat static on a motorway was.preferable than possibly the most stressed I've been for a long time, in traffic, not knowing where the heck you are, wondering if the satnav has thrown a wobbly, no doubt the residents of Preston were exasperated beyond belief.
First and.last time I used Waze

At one time I'd have poo-pooed this idea but now I would be in favour of it.

I suppose I'm just lucky to never be in a hurry!

My son is /was a foot down merchant, keen to get where he's going ASAP.
A few holidays i followed him and because im a steady driver (60mph is fast enough for.me on a motorway, im in no rush and its economical)..he stuck to 60.
When we got there he remarked how nicen it was to travel at that speed, far less tiring.

I think I've converted him

I prefer to be moving, than sat in a major jam. Even if it takes longer

Sitting in a jam uses almost no power. Prioritising movement is costing you money.

I understand Andys sentiment (I would 'prefer' to keep moving) but the journey i spoke of earlier became a constant stop start, over and over and over, in heavy rush hour traffic..for around an hour. The wear and tear, the.massively Increased fuel consumption, the stress, the environmental impact on a town/city with motorway traffic desperately trying to navigate its way through..
Thats the dumb side to 'intelligent' sat navs...I really do wish I'd sat in static traffic and waited till it was clear, it'd have been better all round.
Thats the trouble when you entrust to satnav...you lose control sometimes.

A price worth paying for a far less stressful journey.

Soon as my navigation prompts me with a 10 or min delay, I take the divert option.

On the rare occasion I get caught up in something just occurred in front of me and not fed through to navigation, I'll look at options to get off the next junction if possible. Google maps(Tesla) is pretty good, understanding its traffic level colour system helps.
