My bag holds eight pints and the ingredients for several meals. Much more practical.

We have been charged for bags in Wales for a couple of years now. Its no big deal. I keep bags in the car, I haven't heard anyone here complain about bags or the cost of them. People very rarely ask for plastic carrier bags now. 5p is about right.

Shops have always been at liberty to charge for their bags and most of them chose not to. Now they have to by law. There are some exceptions but I'm not curious enough to find out what they are.

im not complaining though.Go into a shop like Argos and it almost seems to be obligatory to give out a plastic bag with a purchase of which most of the time I decline.

The odd thing about it is that I will have to start buying bin liners - even though I almost always shop with a smallish rucksack or pannier, it's virtually impossible to get out of some shops bag-free. So they get used for rubbish. So instead of getting my bin liners for free, I'll have to buy them, and there will be no net savings of plastics.

Always have bags for life if in the car or panniers on the bike so largely meh to charging, it is useful to have a few plastic supermarket bags to keep the used dog poo bags organised before a trip to the tip.

It seems to be working up here Vernon, noticed a decline in bags littering street/cyclepaths not sure about home delivery my supermarket is 200 yards away so dont use this service. i dont think the takeaways charge though

One of the big exclusions is its only big companies with over 200 employees..... small shops and chip shops can still give them away free if they so wish
