5p for a carrier bag

They're forcing the issue, which is no bad thing really.
I'll have to change my habits. I always use the free carrier bags, but theyALWAYS get at least one more use, either as refuse bags (I pick the litter in the street every morning while I i walk the dog)..or for general waste in the house. I'll have to buy 'proper' waste bags AND pay for shopping bags. No big deal...the quality of free bags has declined to the point they often split while you're putting the shopping in them...for that reason, I'd resent paying 5p for them.
From my perspective, nothing will be saved...I'll have to buy plastic refuse bags now, something I didnt do before.
We brought better shopping bags this week in preperation.

Home delivery has a flat 40p charge for the use of carrier bags per delivery.

We have been charged for bags in Wales for a couple of years now. Its no big deal. I keep bags in the car, I haven't heard anyone here complain about bags or the cost of them. People very rarely ask for plastic carrier bags now. 5p is about right.

In wales the co-op does the green plastic bag for life. If the bag rips or the handles break or it splits for any reason, they will give you another free of charge. Just take the old one with you when you to shopping.

How about not giving plastic bags at all? Use those decomposable bags and charge 50p or get the customer to bring their own bags.

I have re-usable bags but I always forget to take them with me. At 50p a pop for each bag, I'll soon learn NY lesson and start remembering.

So have I. I'll have to get into the habit of:

1. Making sure that I put them into the car after unpacking them.
2. Remembering to take them out of the car into the supermarket/shop when I go shopping.

Plastic bags are more greener than paper if the whole carbon footprint from production to delivery is taken into account .
So charging for them is just profit making at our expense the same as all green taxes are .

If you buy razor blades and fresh meat you are entitled to a free bag for these items , Health and safety .

You'll get used to remembering to bring bags along.
I carry shopping in my panniers (still need a bag to carry stuff from the shop to the bike!), or go out with a shopping trolley or the bike trailer.
Thing is sometimes I need a few bags around the home, so I buy them.
