Might be interesting to see the %age of crimes where there was any attempt to identify a suspect.

Bicycle theft would be right near the bottom of that chart

Investigation locally appears to consist of attempting to persuade you no crime has occurred, making a note of your call, staring into space, and marking the case closed.

And it was like that when police numbers were at their highest, so 20000 ex-plod later....

No number plates ..security devices..mots and people who use a 3 quid lock..

It's up to the owner to make it difficult.
But a bike is easy pickings for scrotes .and eBay is their best friend

Report it as a vehicle theft. Done it once and got a "blues & twos" response, because I said I was going hunting for those that took it.
