I have an old HP Tablet TC1100, been running Ubuntu 9.04 and am just in the process of doing the upgrade.

Free-wheeling into oblivion...
Now working fine... wireless just worked - no faffing, not drivers, no arsing around.

Opera installed (prefer this to FF, but will install Chrome when a Linux stable release is available)
Evolution email configured, Empathy set up for MSN

The world is good

My EeePC is up and running with 9.10 netbook remix out of the box, no pfaffing. Got to say, I like the look of it too (and I mean the aesthetics), much more attractive, imo, than 9.04. Now I just hope it works as well!

Oh, a bluetooth browse of my mobile (obex) STILL doesn't work! It got knackered around 3 or 4 releases back and hasn't worked since. Small price to pay though.

Its come on alot, after my teething issues everything works to an extent. Have ahd one or two crashes when trying to do something, one was running virtualbox and another was after running some sort of 3D game. I`m suspecting its the ATI gfx in this laptop, as AMD/ATI no do not support it with current drivers i`m kinda left in limbo till the open source stuff gets better. In all honesty though, if you are thinking of making the switch from windows, linux is worth the chance. No faffing around much with drivers such as you do in windows.

Just to add my Epson SX515 wireless printer works as does the scanner side of it as well  However not using wireless, as this printer also comes with an ethernet port, makes life far easier.

thinking about dropping down to 9.04, not so sure this is a very stable release ? Getting quite alot of crashing which could be just my hardware or unstable OS.

So pleased with the stability on my EeePC that I'm currently updating my laptop. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and I even got the bluebooth browse working! With the valuable assistance of my friend google and a bit of inspired hacking!

A few people on the Ubuntu forums are reporting problems when updating from 9.04( myself included), After upgrading the system works but wont shut down, as was the case with Mrs's laptop. I have just done a clean install and all worked well!

Yes, I know. Well, not about you but about the other reported problems! It was the same with the upgrade to 9.04 too, though the upgrade path went cleanly for others.

I think I ended up doing a clean install for 9.04. It's also a damned site quicker. I have all my data in separate partitions so I can clean install pretty easily. I just like to take the upgrade path if possible.

I did have problems after upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, but that was because I tried to be too clever and upgrade to Grub 2 at the same time, rather than staying with the old version of Grub as recommended. Other than that, it works fine

I love it... only need Windoze to update my Tom Tom, Mobile Phone and speed controller now

I run Win2k in VirtualBox for similar reasons.

It is, in all seriousness, a weak area for unix; you just don't have the selection of software. And companies are developing their interface apps only for the Windows and, if you're lucky, Mac. Where there is an available app, is often not as feature rich as the Windows alternative.
