can you use that amd 64bit version with intel systems to get 64-bit or do you have to stick with the i386 version?

not sure tbh anytime ive looked its only ever been AMD64, I`m going to assume that AMD64 = X86 64bit same as Intel and AMD 64bit, so yes its compatible.

well tails of woe here, not tried installing unbuntu on this laptop before, its a Dell with built in raid oh the joys. It would seem I need the alternate CD install disc, so downloading that and trying again.

Just downloading the netbook remix so I can play with it but I'll hang fire updating my laptop until maybe 6 weeks, let then find/iron out some bugs first!

still fighting with the install If it wasn`t for this raid nonsense i would be home and dry and I don`t regard myself as a linux noob either. Spent long enough recompiling kernels and all that nonsense years ago.
