Hi - just wondering if anyone has a set of 8 speed bar ends and / or some cantilever brakes they could be persuaded to part with? I actually only need one pair of cantilevers, but I suppose it'd be pleasing if I had a matching set!
How old is the frame/fork you want to put these canti's on? The stud gap is critical and on older frames tends to be much narrower than current ones making fitting contemporary canti's a bit of a faff.
I suggest you get a c-to-c measurement of the bosses/studs pronto. I've just been down this route on a late 80's/early 90's design tandem.
Mr Shimano does the mostly adaptable canti I came across the BR-CX50 (and more expensive sibling the CX70). Adaptablity chart can be found in this tech doc. and beyond the ranges given these can be set up for narrower studs with a little ingenuity.
I have Tekro CR720s on my Surly LHT. Very pleased with them so I'd recommend those. I'm not sure of the difference from 520 to 720s, they are a little more expensive.
Thanks @dnrc but I live near Planet-x so I will probably pick up the 520's - they're not listed on the Tektro site anymore so I presume the 720 is some sort of upgrade, but they look the same to me!
Will do - got my 8 speed bar ends today. Thought they only had 6 clicks at first but they'd just been put back together out of alignment after they'd been removed from whichever bike they were on - I'm getting there
