8 speed chainset with 10 speed chain ?

I have an 8 speed square taper chainset will it work with a 10 speed chain/ groupset ?
I have read mixed answers on the interweb , if its iffy i will have to shop around for a better replacement

Apparently the gear changing may be noisy moving from big ring to small and vice versa. If I already had the parts to swap over I'd personally give it a go.

Very similar but I upgraded my cx bike from 9 speed to 11 but kept the original 9 speed chain set (FSA).

Not had any issues with it over the last couple of years

another thought, can i stick a 10 speed chainring on it ? i dont see why not as long as they are the same bcd and number of holes
