The 80's was a great era ask Gary Davies

As time marches each age group hits that window of nostalgia where the music they grew up with is the best.

The previous group has gotten old enough that they no longer care about music, certainly not loud or frenetic music. So that stuff stops being played.

The group before that is currently deaf, so what’s the point.

and the group before that has croaked by now. Which means Kieth Richard’s is doing a lot of funeral gigs these days.

I know I have blinkers here, as it's the music I grew up with, but ...

It does seem to be the decade that gets the most nostalgia (rightly or wrongly!).

And if so, is there a period that younger generations obsess over in a similar way?

Oh, you feckless youngsters.

Been to see them a few times over the last few years. Still the original guitarist and drummer, guitarists son plays with them now.

I wouldn't pick a decade, I've known great music since the early 60s. I doubt I could name an 80s band or track is irrelevant to me. After the 60s I'd largely be guessing a year or decade.

Don't most people have rose tinted glasses for the decade of music from their teens?

There's been the odd group or solo artist or tune since, but a vast majority of my favourites come from the 80s, especially the second half.
